Eye-Revive | Recurrent Corneal Erosion & Treatment
Recurrent Corneal Erosion is an eye condition that occurs when the outer layer of the Cornea, or the epithelium, pulls back exposing sensitive nerves. RCEs are particularly painful in the morning, as the inflamed epithelium can stick to the inside of a person’s eyelid while asleep. Symptoms can last for as little as a few hours or as long as a few days, and are usually localized in one eye.
Most cases of Recurrent Corneal Erosion happen as a result of some prior eye injury. Treatments include patching the eye, and the use of anti-inflammatory eye-drops. Topical ointments can also be used while sleeping, to help reduce the chance of “epithelium peeling,” upon awakening.
